Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at admin@advancedsportsclinic.net.au if you cannot find an answer to your question.

TRT can be administered in various forms, depending on the patient's needs and preferences:

  1. Intramuscular Injections: Testosterone is injected directly into the muscle, usually every 1-2 weeks.
  2. Transdermal Patches: Patches are applied to the skin, delivering a steady dose of testosterone.
  3. Topical Gels: Gels are applied to the skin daily, absorbed through the skin to maintain hormone levels.
  4. Implants: Small pellets are implanted under the skin, releasing testosterone over several months.
  5. Oral Tablets: Less commonly used due to potential liver toxicity but available in some formulations.

While TRT can offer significant benefits, it also carries potential risks and side effects, such as:

  • Acne and oily skin
  • Sleep apnea
  • Breast enlargement (gynecomastia)
  • Increased red blood cell count (which can increase the risk of blood clots)
  • Prostate enlargement and potential acceleration of existing prostate cancer
  • Fluid retention

Patients on TRT require regular follow-up with their healthcare provider to monitor:

  • Assessment of symptoms
  • Testosterone levels
  • Hematocrit and hemoglobin levels
  • Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels
  • Liver function
  • Lipid profiles
